About the study

When and where:
Summer 2017 on Block Island, RI

Who are we?
This study is conducted by researchers from the Eco-epidemiology lab at Columbia University.

What is it about?
In two words, Lyme disease. Lyme disease can be transmitted to humans after a tick bite. This study is designed to help us understand more about how human behaviors and activities impact their exposure to ticks on the island. This study will help us develop better strategies to prevent tick bites and the diseases that humans can get from ticks.

How can I participate?
We have designed a free app for your smartphone!

  1. Download the GeoQuestion app from the App Store/Google Play.
  2. Once you download the app and register for an account, you will be asked to take one pre-survey. This short survey will include questions about your typical activities, including the steps that you take to protect yourselves from tick bites.
  3. You will then receive daily questions that should take less than a minute to complete, for 3 weeks.
  4. With your permission, we will also collect information on your location, the time of day, and the weather at the time of the daily survey questions.
